Rare Shadow

The last plum-tree I wrote about yesterday is pretty close to the creek. It was very hot but as I was walking this huge shadow just appeared in the pasture and I looked up and there was an eagle! I have not seen an eagle on my property in about 20 years. I am sure that it has to do with the fires. It was just so incredible to see this eagle flying overhead and landing in one of my trees by the creek. Reminded me of being in Alaska. We used to see eagles and ospreys every time we went down to Homer to our boat that was anchored there. It’s wonderful to see one here again.

More Adventures With Fruit

A couple of days ago, I was out in the pasture, and saw that my plum trees are going crazy! We’ve had such high temperatures that the trees have just exploded with plums. We have seven plum trees in our orchard. By the time I picked two of my trees clean, I had seven buckets of plums!

We also have two apple trees in our orchard as well as cherry trees. But I think my two apple trees have a suicide pack. We have lost so many limbs just this year, with all these weird storms we’ve had, that now my trees are tipping over and uprooting themselves. If one of them does end up tipping over it’s going to take out the fence that we recently had put up. If the other one decides to fall, it will land on my well house! I just put an ad in the local paper looking for someone who will come and chop down both of these trees and keep the wood. So they chop, they haul and they get all the apple wood they want.

Cherry-picker

Every day is an adventure with cats! Yesterday, after I was unloading groceries, Flash jumped up on my counter and grabbed the bag of cherries! I had left the room for a few minutes and when I came back, she had the bag and she was running around the house and there were cherries all over the floor!

It would’ve been funny, except cherries are very toxic to cats - and dogs. They contain cyanide in the pits and the stems, so I was panicked. I managed to get her away from the cherries, and put her in the bathroom. I’m picking up all the cherries but somehow she got out of the bathroom, and she started playing with the cherries again. I don’t know exactly how she gets to be such a mischief-maker but she certainly is that.

She did not eat any of the cherries or any of the stems. She did’nt chase any of the pits. I lost over half of the cherries. They just went in the trash. Since I’m unable to mop my floors, my floors aren’t exactly that clean right now. I figured even washing off the cherries wouldn’t work.

It was one of those situations that was funny - afterward.

Back On Line (Almost)

Hi guys!

I am back (almost).

I am still focused on trying to bring my right arm/hand back to the party. Unfortunately, it is slow going. They are trying to figure out how to schedule my physical therapy. It looks like they’re going to have to schedule two visits per week. The reason is, they can’t work on my arm and my hand and my shoulder at the same time. The surgeon wanted me to come to Corvallis to have my arm and my hand worked on. He wanted to refer me to another clinic to get my shoulder worked on, which hasn’t been even looked at since the surgery. Right now it doesn’t seem like that’s going to work. So I won’t know until August 5 exactly what’s going to go on from here.

One of the most frustrating parts of this is the fact that I cannot pick up my kittens. Flash is not happy with me at all. She wants to be picked up all the time, but I’m just unable to use my right hand right now and if I pick her up, I have to scruff her and that’s not a good thing. When you scruff a kitty you cut off their breathing. So that’s my dilemma.

Because when I’m in the house. I have to literally run them off from my lap if I sit down. Which makes them a little bit fearful of me. They are a bit confused as am I. I am still driver dependent. I did get in my truck yesterday to see if I could reach the gearshift yet. I found out to my dismay. I can’t even put the key in the Ignition. It’s slow going, but I will get there. I promise.

Kota and I are walking every day. We try to go further and further each time. Because I live on such a busy highway, I skirt my neighbors yards till I get to the side street we go down that street and away from all the crazy drivers Thankfully, he is very well-trained and heels nicely.

I would never be able to do that if he pulled me.

I don’t know how long it’s going to be before I’m back to normal. I do know that I can’t wait. I’m sure my cats feel the same way.

The girls are holding my chair hostage!
